Miniature Horse Breeders' Society
The South African Miniature Horse Breeders' Society was founded in November 1984 by eleven breeders and in September 1989, the South African Studbook Association accepted the South African Miniature Horse as an independent breed in its own right. The South African Miniature Horse Breeders' Society presently has 60 members, 430 fully registered horses, 150 horses registered in an auxiliary studbook and 210 foals.
At the age of two and a half years horses are inspected and selected by officials of the Breeders' Society. Only those that are smaller than 90cm and comply with the breed standards are taken up in the studbook. Mares between 90cm and 100cm in height with the right conformation, are registered in an auxiliary studbook.
The South African Miniature Horse Breeders' Society annually organizes several shows were owners of Miniatures can compete in breed, riding jumping and driving classes.
Apart from regional shows, the highlight of each year is the South African National Miniature Horse Show.
